Planning a Remodel or New Construction Project is Always Exciting!
And just imagining how your life would be in this newly-designed space!
But every project might also have
4 Potential Problems
Your hard-earned dollars are not going into the best areas
- Is it better to spend more in the kitchen or in the bathrooms?
- Should we add a pool in the backyard, or get large palm trees?
- Is changing the floor plan to create another room but reducing the size of the other rooms a good idea?
The construction industry is notorious of having delay upon delay.
Some are inevitable (like getting the plans approved with the city planning department).
But many delays are just due to bad planning or follow up with your contractor.
These delays often cost you more money that you expected, like paying mortage on your new home while also pyaing rent on a place for your family to stay during construction.
- How can those timeline missteps be minimized?
- How to hold your contractor accountable to the original time table?
Change orders and budget overruns
These projects are notorious to start at one price, but end up 30% or higher than the original estimate.
- Why is that?
- How change orders can be minimized, or even completely eliminated?
Mismatch between expectations and the finished project
- How come you don’t feel as comfortable in your new space as you thought you would when the project was designed?
- Is there anything you could have done differently to get exactly what you wanted?

About Interior Design
Interior design is the art and science of enhancing the interior of a building to achieve a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for the people using the space. An interior designer is someone who plans, researches, coordinates, and manages such projects. Interior design is a multifaceted profession that includes conceptual development, space planning, site inspections, programming, research, communicating with the stakeholders of a project, construction management, and execution of the design.
In the past, interiors were put together instinctively as a part of the process of building. The profession of interior design has been a consequence of the development of society and the complex architecture that has resulted from the development of industrial processes. The pursuit of effective use of space, user well-being and functional design has contributed to the development of the contemporary interior design profession. The profession of interior design is separate and distinct from the role of interior decorator, a term commonly used in the US. The term is less common in the UK, where the profession of interior design is still unregulated and therefore, strictly speaking, not yet officially a profession.
About Oakland, California
Oakland is the largest city and the county seat of Alameda County, California, United States. A major West Coast port city, Oakland is the largest city in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, the third largest city overall in the San Francisco Bay Area, the eighth most populated city in California, and the 45th largest city in the United States. With a population of 432,897 as of 2019[update], it serves as a trade center for the San Francisco Bay Area; its Port of Oakland is the busiest port in the San Francisco Bay, the entirety of Northern California, and the fifth busiest in the United States of America. An act to incorporate the city was passed on May 4, 1852, and incorporation was later approved on March 25, 1854, which officially made Oakland a city. Oakland is a charter city.
Oakland’s territory covers what was once a mosaic of California coastal terrace prairie, oak woodland, and north coastal scrub. Its land served as a rich resource when its hillside oak and redwood timber were logged to build San Francisco. Oakland’s fertile flatland soils helped it become a prolific agricultural region. In the late 1860s, Oakland was selected as the western terminal of the Transcontinental Railroad. Following the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, many San Francisco citizens moved to Oakland, enlarging the city’s population, increasing its housing stock, and improving its infrastructure. It continued to grow in the 20th century with its busy port, shipyards, and a thriving automobile manufacturing industry.
